Ideal for: ladies who don't mind waiting.
Job specifications: Your life is really easy, at
least for a few years. You fan the young princess, possibly feed her grapes
and accompany her on delightful strolls around the palace grounds. Play your
cards right and you may even catch the fancy of one of the noblemen, who
could make you one of his mistresses.
Drawbacks: In case your boss gets married—and her husband has an early
death—both you and your boss are sent to the pyre. It’s part of tradition
that all a prince’s possessions (and you are, at this point, just a
possession) must be offered to him so you may continue to serve him in the
afterlife. Just one of the reasons why you might want to reconsider having
yourself transferred to the royal kitchen.
Perks: Take your chances (and make darn sure that the prince doesn’t go
off to battle and die) and you may lead the rest of your life in relative
leisure.
