Ideal for: farmers needing shelter
Job Specifications: Without the convenience of a corner Home Depot store,
you have to provide shelter for your family by weaving long, sharp wands of
hazel into makeshift hurdles called “wattles.” That’s the easy part. Then
you go to your livestock (see what’s coming?), collect a large amount of
dung, and mix it with water, straw and mud. But wait, there’s more! Stick
your fingers into this delightful mixture and apply it to the hurdles,
making sure to fill in all the holes and gaps so you don’t get any nasty
draughts. Repairs are needed on a regular basis.
Drawbacks: Aside from the pungent aroma of fresh cow
poop, you face the delightful prospect of removing the ringworms and
pinworms that tend to pool in animal feces. And let me tell you—the smell of
turd baking in the sunshine ain’t nothing like Grandma’s apple pies.
Perks: No matter how bad it is, it’s still a better
proposition than freezing in the winter.
