Ideal for: those looking for gold, glory and girls
Job specifications: You travel to unsuspecting villages, pillage it for
gold, abscond with the maidens and defend what you have rightfully stolen
from warriors from other tribes. Some nautical and battle skills are
necessary, and a great deal of politicking as well—get on the wrong side of
the ship’s captain, and you could be left stranded on a deserted iceberg.
Drawbacks: While better off than a galley slave, ship conditions aren’t
much better. It’s cramped, cold, filthy (16 men on one ship, with no woman
to clean up after them - it’s bound to be a nightmare). You live off raw
fish for weeks at a time, and there’s constant risk of being caught in a
storm and drowning.
Perks: You have your pick of the village ladies, and with enough
pillaging, can comfortably retire to a quiet seaside hut and spend the rest
of your life running a cosy Norwegian spa. Unfortunately, very few warriors
get to retirement age—or even middle age--so enjoy what you can, and pray
the gods spare your neck the next day.
